The Early Years program is for Years 1 and 2 of schooling, for children aged between 5 and 7.

In this section of our school we ensure that each pupil’s personal priority needs are the starting point to their education, which we meet through Individual Education Plans.  All students begin learning lifelong skills to equip them to become valued members of the community.

Real Learning at Rosamond School...

Real learning takes place when the teacher uses their knowledge of students, gained from listening to students, families, past teachers, medical professionals and therapists etc., to inform their teaching. Students’ different learning styles are recognised and catered for. The learning environments will change in order to support and meet the needs of the learners.  (Assessment as the basis of future learning)

Real learning takes place when teachers model and provide opportunities for students to experience and develop, life-long learning behaviours, including risk-taking and reflecting upon success and failure. Through such learning experiences, students develop knowledge and confidence about themselves as learners. (Students as learners)

Real learning involves explicit teaching and the provision of learning opportunities for students to be able to transfer knowledge and skills from one context to another. Through explicit teaching and the provision of such learning opportunities, students will be expected to be curious and questioning independent learners.  (Teachers using their expert knowledge and skills to provide curriculum and an environment to learn and grow)

Real learning involves a collaborative process (between teacher, student, family, relevant professionals) of setting challenging, achievable and purposeful goals. Teachers extend students beyond what they can already do, by providing the necessary structure and support. Students understand what they are learning and why, providing the motivator for students committing to be the best that they can be. (Zone of Proximal Development – Vygotsky and Gradual Release Model)

The Primary section of Rosamond School is for students aged from 6 to 13 years.

Students are grouped in open groupings that reflect interpersonal interactions rather than age or ability. Groups have boys and girls within classrooms.

The program focuses on developing student skills with real learning always in the forefront. Literacy (Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing), Numeracy (Number, Money, Time), Interpersonal Development and Personal Learning form the major components of the Primary school programs. All students have Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) that are set at the start of the school year, in conjunction with parents, which reflect their individual development in each of these areas. Student voice is encouraged as a part of this process.

Our Secondary School program is for students aged between 12 and 16.

Students partake in a range of academic programs and educational experiences.

Our Secondary School Curriculum is based on AusVELS and ABLES. Each student is provided with an Individual Education Program. Each class has a two hour Literacy block each day as well as one hour of Mathematics. Humanities, Science, Geography, History, Civics and Citizenship are incorporated into thematic units.  Regular excursions, using the school bus or public transport, enrich these themes.

The Exits program is for students aged between 16 and 18.

Students in the post-compulsory years undertake the VCAL Foundation Certificate or, where more appropriate, a generalist program that provides students with the opportunity to participate in VCAL Work Skills, including a Structured Workplace Learning Placement and the VCAL Personal Development program as well as individual learning activities.
