Rosamond Special School

The Primary section of Rosamond School is for students aged from 6 to 13 years.

Students are grouped in open groupings that reflect interpersonal interactions rather than age or ability. Groups have boys and girls within classrooms.

The program focuses on developing student skills with real learning always in the forefront. Literacy (Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing), Numeracy (Number, Money, Time), Interpersonal Development and Personal Learning form the major components of the Primary school programs. All students have Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) that are set at the start of the school year, in conjunction with parents, which reflect their individual development in each of these areas. Student voice is encouraged as a part of this process.

In addition to Literacy and Numeracy, students are explicitly taught skills in play, feelings, conflict resolution, managing social relationships, turn-taking and sharing.
Classroom learning is based on Student ILP goals and Units of Inquiry that are relevant and enjoyable to students and aim to widen interests and create opportunities to develop their knowledge base.

Students attend Specialist programs within the school (Art, Library, Physical Education and the Kitchen - Garden program) as well as a selection of other opportunities such as Swimming, Auskick, Victoria University Adapted Physical Education Multi-Sport Program, and Musica Viva. Each week concludes with an Assembly which enables all Junior and Middle students to meet, share learnings and achievements for the week, and to enjoy each other’s company in a “performance" environment.

Our students embrace learning, and this enhances their love of being at school.
