SEEDS Kitchen Garden

FROM LITTLE THINGS BIG THINGS GROW

We are thrilled to be a Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden School. We have beautiful, light, bright and spacious spaces (both inside and outside) to learn all about growing, harvesting, preparing and sharing food.

Our kitchen garden includes an orchard for all tastes, extensive raised garden beds, large bean tee-pees (perfect for picnics), a Mediterranean herb garden and places to dig, plant and sit amongst the vines. It provides opportunities for students to engage all senses whilst also learning specific skills.

The expansive kitchen is enjoyed by all – students, staff, families and visitors. It is a central space in between our kitchen garden and town square, where everyone is encouraged to share conversation alongside food that is prepared with care.

Students throughout the entire school visit the kitchen to learn specific skills in relation to food preparation. They learn to prepare many menu items, from simple no-cook snacks, right through to beautifully cooked and culturally diverse meals.

Students in the senior school have the opportunity to be involved in our café program. They spend time preparing morning tea, lunches and drinks for staff to purchase. When requested to do so, they also fully cater for meetings. This gives them an opportunity to experience and develop skills necessary for working in hospitality. Each term they host a visit from their families.

The kitchen and kitchen garden strongly encourage a sense of community. Everyone is always welcome!
